Description:
Medium sized pipit with seasonal differences in plumage. In all plumages, has lightly streaked upperparts, lacks olive-green on wing, and has pale lores; underparts more heavily streaked, upperparts darker and legs paler compared with Water Pipit. In breeding plumage, has deeper orange-buff wash to underparts.
Distribution:
Uncommon passage migrant through the central parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly Hunza, Gilgit and Diamer. On migration occurs in marshes, grasslands, sandbars and open flats near rivers and lakes, ploughed or wet fields and pastures, up to 3000m.
Behavior:
Forages on ground, by picking; also wades in shallow pools in search of aquatic invertebrates. Mainly feeds on insects, including grasshoppers, crickets and locusts, beetles and bugs , also larvae, and ants; also small seeds and berries. Plant material taken mainly in autumn and winter.
